A few months ago I got a phone call from the guys over at Lost Type. They wanted me to collaborate with them on a new typeface project involving a western font they were making. They liked the Stereo Classics collage & stop motion video that I made, which had used a number of fonts they had created.
So I got to designing and working out a collage and look that would suit the needs of a super slab serif font like dude, along with the western theme that I know all to well (my dad was a Rodeo cowboy growing up, hence why my name is Colt)
Here Dan Gneiding, the creator of Dude, talks a little bit about his inspiration for the font:
